Notes for Sarah CHITTENDEN:

There was a Sarah CHITTENDEN shown as age 60 on the 1841 Census.  Given that ages were rounded up this could be the same Sarah as I have not been able to find a marriage for her.  However, I do not know if the Sarah on the 1841 was married or not, so further research is required.  Details are below:

Notes for James CHITTENDEN:

Information about this family is uncertain and needs much more research

However, if Mary baptised in Minster on the 20 June 1824 belong to this family, as the address in the parish register is Acol, then the following might apply to this James.

1845 - P.O. Directory

ACOL        CHITTENDEN James        Crown & Sceptre

However....does this apply to this James?

Addresses

1851        12 Brunswick Place, Birchington, Kent

In which case, do the following baptisms in Birchington, Kent belong?

Edward CHITTENDEN son of James and Mary 14 October 1821

Emma CHITTENDEN daughter of James and Mary 16 February 1824 (in which case the Mary baptism would not apply)

John CHITTENDEN son of James and Mary 15 June 1828

Alfred CHITTENDEN son of James and Mary 13 January 1833

Sarah Ann CHITTENDEN daughter of James and Mary 13 January 1833

Ambrose CHITTENDEN son of James and Mary 9 January 1834

But then, who was daughter Emma shown on the 1851 Census as born in Deal?  There were two Emma Janes born about the right time, June quarter 1845 in the Thanet District, and September quarter 1845 in the Eastry District.

Notes for Thomas CHITTENDEN:

In the transcript of the Parish Register the mother of Thomas is shown as Mary.  Between 1796 and 1814 there had been 10 children baptised with parents John and MARY.  At the time of her burial Sarah CHITTENDEN was shown as having a son Thomas.  Therefore, it is believed that an error has been made and that Thomas was the son of John and SARAH and that the error was due to the frequency that John and Mary had been written in previous years.

There is no proof as yet that this Athalinda CHITTENDEN belongs to this family.  However, it is such an unusual name, the county is correct, and there is a space in the family, so she has been included for the present.  I could find neither a marriage nor a death on the FreeBMD site.  Nor could I find her on the 1881 or 1901 census.  More research required, which has now been done, see address above
