Only a possible son, the only CROSS in the Axmouth Baptism Register not connected to "our" CROSS family.  A suitable baptism has not yet been found to prove that William belongs to this family.  However he is described as William CROSS junior so there must have been a William CROSS senior.  This William is only included here because, as afore mentioned, all the others in the parish register belong to this family.  More research required.

It is prossible that the following applies, but at present it cannot be proven. 

However, since the above statement was written and the following details typed in here, it has become apparent that the CROSS inhabitants of Axmouth at this period of time all appear to be connected.  The information from Axmouth, extracted by the Latter Day Saints has therefore been entered for the various individuals names, as well as it being left here to emphasize that it might be entered wrongly.  Therefore, all details which have been left below ought to be checked with the parish registers.

 

John CROSS - baptised 25 March 1708 in Axmouth Devon with father William.  This could be "our" John. At this time wives'/mothers' names were only infrequently entered in the register.

Mary CROSS - baptised 7 March 1700 in Axmouth Devon

So, was there a William marriage in Axmouth which could fit?

On the Familysearch web site:

William CROSS married Sarah RUDD in 1704 in Axmouth, Devon.  His father was William CROSS snr

William CROSS married Sarah about 1697 in Axmouth, Devon

William CROSS - buried 18 November 1748

 

These items of information were entered by individuals and do not appear on the list of marriages for Axmouth extracted from the registers by the Latter Day Saints themselves.  As an indication of why it is necessary to be wary about such information, the following was extracted by the Latter Day Saints from the Parish Registers (although this would also need checking)

William CROSS married Sarah RODD 11 April 1699 in Crediton, Devon

The similarity in the name of the two Sarahs makes the Axmouth marriage very questionable.

 

There are several other William CROSS marriages elsewhere in Devon, but no clues as to which one is the right one!
