Sergeant Joe HUNSLEY joined the army at the age of 18 after an argument with his father Fergus. He wrote a series of letters to his parents and grandparents describing his thoughts and travels through Africa, Mauritius and India with the 2nd York and Lancaster Regiment. He was a teacher to native boys an girls. He was engaged to be married to a lady in India, but tragically died of enteric fever at the age of 27 only a few days before he was due to return home.
